The deepest level of our actual ecological crisis. Part I — The Status Quo: Fearful Society

As society can be seen as the collective reflection of our inner worlds, the life which people have build around themselves today seems to be mostly a reflection of fear, based on the illusion that we are a separated entity (an ego) from the world.

This ego, from which most action arises, is scared all the time and constantly fighting for its survival. It’s always striving for security, pleasure and sedation to escape from that fear. Therefore we are collectively and constantly in a state of either running away and covering up, or fighting against/for something or someone, accompanied by the dominant urge to possess things and to control our environment and nature.

This is leading to:

thinking instead of feeling,

having instead of being,

predicting instead of sensing,

controlling instead of responding,

forcing instead of letting it emerge.

Fear instead of love.

Therefore destruction instead of creation.

In this self- and collectively destructive world, at the most fundamental level, there is the very deep alienation from nature speaking, causing our ongoing and accelerating ecological crisis. We see and feel ourselves to be separate from nature and this allows us to cause so much destruction to the earth without feeling that we are destroying ourselves.

We fight against nature, we want to dominate and exploit it, we are in need of subjecting and controlling it.

„But life is a spontaneous process — if you try to control it, you destroy it. It enfolds itself if you let it.“

The difficulty with most of us seems to be, that we have not the intention to understand this, because we are afraid that, if we understood, it might bring about a revolutionary action in our life and therefore we resist.

It’s our defense mechanisms that are covering up our fear. We live in denial and we cling on work, things, experiences, ideas, religion, relationships, hope, etc., unaware of reality and unable to let go…

Sadly, also our actions to prevent the ecological catastrophe, possibly leading to the 6th mass extinction of life on earth, seems also mostly driven by fear. Greta wants us to be scared, she wants us to panic. We shall fight against climate change. As necessary her wake up call might have been, it is still fear speaking. The fear of an ego that is afraid to die.

But has there ever came something good from fear?

We get more and more scared and as mostly outward looking materialist that we are, many of us are pinning their hopes on technology. But technology never brought up sustainable solutions and certainly no salvation and it never will. In the long run it always creates new and bigger problems on another level which are not seen at the time of the invention.

This is because technology arises from the mind, which is ego, which is scared and cares only for itself, which is missing wholeness and therefore is leading to destruction.

So, where do we go from here?

To be continued…
